The Kitchen

The kitchen is a public space - a place of celebration and gratitude - a balance of form and function - a melting pot of materials, fixtures, appliances, and cabinetry.

We design a kitchen like a chef makes a banquet, a hundred decisions to make, a hundred flavors and nuances to get it just right.

Kitchen in Italian vernacular with international resources: 18th-century English baker’s table, Indonesian teak countertop, French stove, and Italian terracotta tiles. The cabinetry and serving table are designed by ARC Design.

We created this kitchen for a pattern-loving client. These custom tiles were made in the Bay Area, inspired by the ceiling of La Sistina Della Maiolica. The cabinets and furniture throughout the house were built in a family workshop in Indonesia.

The kitchen in this custom home by ARC Design blends California stone-winery vernacular with a modern industrial sensibility. The cabinets and ceiling are built from reclaimed white oak beams. The floor is French limestone. The woodworking and cabinets in the house were built by local craftspeople.

The Bathroom

The bathroom, a watery sanctuary, is a private space for revival and refreshment, surrounded by surfaces and textures. and perhaps a splash of fragrance.

The mixture of textures and surfaces along with rustic and contemporary elements make this bathroom come alive.

In this custom home by ARC Design, we mixed many elements to create a fresh, timeless look. Four local woodworkers were responsible for the cabinets and built-ins throughout the house.

Comforting and serene, the bathtub nestles up to the stone wall. Below the ash cabinets, there is storage and access to the plumbing.

The Bedroom

The bedroom is a tranquil retreat where dreams are made - comforted with down, cotton, and linen - where the sun awakens a new day.

Our clients wanted to curl up with their three sons for story time. The four-post bed Marie designed was made locally from California Black Walnut. The rich custom bedding with international fabrics was also made locally, and we hired a wonderful local artist to bring our whimsical headboard mural to life.

Hand-hewn teak floors set the tone in this bedroom with American Clay walls, luxurious custom-designed bedding, and Italian antique nightstands. The colors evoke the Tuscan farmhouse our client dreamed of.

Views of the vineyards are seen from every room in the custom home. The original sawn-faced reclaimed barn wood floor adds to the sense of history.

The Great Room

Maybe more accurately called the living room or the family room, it is a multifaceted space. Its versatility is an asset - expressing the seasons and bringing people together.

A family of six enjoys this soft, functional, relaxing space. Out of view, a wood fireplace and a hidden TV area complete the room's versatility. The floor is tan oak, milled from local trees that fell in the winter storms. The shades are hand-woven fibers by Conrad of San Francisco.

Custom steel doors open to the wine country in this home designed by ARC Design. The great room serves for many occasions. The original-sawn-face reclaimed white oak ceiling creates a historic atmosphere.

The local Black Walnut dining table extends to 16ft long. When turned 90%, it can seat up to 18 people for festive occasions. The floor in this room is made from local storm-fallen Bay Laurel trees. The leaf motif on the chairs and window covering is a theme in this room. The staircase is made from a single fallen white oak.
